Introduction
  • Materials science and engineering, an integral part of engineering for industrial development, is required for the development and application of new materials based on an understanding the structure and properties of materials. The study area of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is an indispensable domain of knowledge for the 21st century, dealing with micro-structure characterization, processes, and manufacturing of new materials for NT (Nano Technology), BT (Bio Technology), ET (Eco Technology), and IT (Information Technology), together with the physical and chemical properties, unique functionality, application, and evaluation of materials for new products. To this end, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering has been established to train high-level human resources with specialized knowledge and skills to understand material science and to develop advanced technology.

Education and Research

  • Since the beginning of civilization, the age classification also has been named according to the materials as a measure to influence the quality of human life. This department was established in the year 1987, evolved to this day, and has come a long way, despite a short history. From the school year 1997, the department advertised for third year transfer students to actively respond to the new advances and diversification in the ever-changing study field of materials science and engineering, and established a graduate school for the cultivation of professional leaders with specialized knowledge and techniques to give students the opportunities of continuing their education.
  • Since materials science and engineering is in the limelight of key industries of the 21st century and now is recognized as a promising engineering field, this department has been focused on training human resources that can meet the contemporary demands of education and research by exploring new potentials of metallic materials, inorganic materials, electronic materials, and composites.

Education Objectives

  • Based on open education and continuing education, the goal was set to contribute to national industry and to cultivate engineering leadership to lead the community.
  • Cultivation of professional materials engineers with creativity and practical ability through extensive theoretical education, experiments, and practices.
  • Systematic training of engineers and knowledge development across a wide range of materials engineering.
  • Convergence of on-site technical training education through industry-academic cooperation, professional training and retraining.
  • Cultivation of highly skilled manpower engaging in education and research.
  • Completion of good work ethics and dignity as a professional engineer with specialized knowledge through a well-rounded education.
